KWM is a top tier international law firm, the largest global law firm in Asia.
With over 2000 lawyers in 30 offices across Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle East they act as a strategically positioned partner on the ground in the world’s growth markets and financial centres.
The problem
KWM Australia manages a very large Microsoft Exchange on-premises environment. As a long-established firm, they were dealing with a large volume of archive data stored within Enterprise Vault.
KWM infrastructure was aging. With old servers and upcoming disk storage constraints, KWM decided to migrate their active mailbox data to Microsoft Exchange online.
One of the main challenges was to deal with the thousands of legacy users still in their system and to find a solution to archive their data.
Another level of complexity was that a large amount of the archive data was identified as duplicates.
A specific approach was required to identify and exclude the duplicates from being migrated and the right technology needed to be identified.
Our Solution
- Following up on the original analysis done by KWM, we went through a detailed process of identification of duplicate data.
- In collaboration with our partner Transvault, we created and executed a that identify and exclude the duplicates prior to the extraction.
Because of the size of the database (Terabytes of data) the migration was managed over a period of 12 months.
The Results
We were able to successfully migrate the mailboxes to Office365 and the size of the archive was significantly decrease, resulting in reduced server footprint and greater scalability.
